Whatever Your Hands Shall Find to Do, Do it Well
I’ve been fascinated by the human hand for the longest time ever. For some reason, I’ve come to the conclusion that our hands are the busiest external body part we’ve got. We use our hands endlessly from the time we wake till we go back to bed. I find myself paying a lot of attention to how people use their hands. I know I use my hands for lots of things :- to cook, eat, clean up, dye fabrics, stitch, pick up stuff, button up my clothes, tie my shoe laces, bring my cup of tea to my lips and on and on. So for a while now (since January), I’ve been creating a series of pieces based solely on the human hand. Initially, I was intimidated by the subject but I decided to challenge myself to do something harder than I’d ever ventured to do with my art. It was a hard subject for me because I haven’t done much figurative work prior to this. But later, I came to learn that the hand is generally a tough subject to master in art. I’m glad I didn’t know that to start with, not that it would have deterred me but who knows? Now that I’ve gotten into it, I can’t stop going. My only regret is that I don’t get enough time to create as many pieces as I’d like to. I suspect, it’s going to be a really long time before I tire of this subject. Initially, I began with a monochromatic color scheme but before I realized it, I was adding more colors. My initial plan was to create each pieces in grey scale only. But now, seeing the bursts of color, I like that too. Here are the few I’ve created so far.
