I’m thrilled to reveal the latest addition to my gem-inspired series of artwork (learn more) —this piece is named “Ruby.”

The gemstone ruby has always stood out for its vibrant, deep red hues- showing intensity at its core. These red hues evoke images of both the life-sustaining force of blood and the transformative power of fire, which I associate with passion and power.
Fiery Intensity

Historically, the concept of power is one that hasn’t been afforded to women. And rarely is it associated with them. However, I believe women possess both power and passion on the inside of them. How do I know? I grew up surrounded by a lot of women.

Even in a society where women haven’t always received the support they deserve to succeed, women have often found ways to thrive. Through their fiery spirit and unwavering determination many have made their mark on history. Conversely, the potential of many women have also been stifled by lack of resources and support.

Through my newest piece “Ruby”, I wish to draw parallels between the beauty and resilience of the gem and the inner beauty and resilience of women whose stories are as multifaceted as the gem itself. Multi-faceted in the sense that there are so many facets to the stories of women. One story does not describe them all.

As I worked on this piece, I pondered the following question. “How different will the world be if we empowered girls and women to unleash the power that lies inside of them?”

I have poured my own reflections on this question into the creation of this piece of work – “Ruby”. With each red thread I chose to embroider or quilt and with each red ink I chose to color my fabrics, I was thinking about how we can create opportunities for girls and women in our society.
The Big Reveal

So, I present to you Ruby; in all of its fiery, powerful, and passionate glory – an ode to women all over the world. And I ask you dear reader, how do we support girls and women to achieve their full potentials?
Warmly,
