I love Slater Museum which is in the Free Academy of Norwich in Connecticut. The stately columns and large open spaces are some of my favorite features of the Slater Museum. Each time I have a piece of work shown in the space, I’m always amazed at how this space makes the collection of artworks on display shine.

Did I say, The Slater Museum is one of my favorite places in CT to show my work? I can’t say that enough.  It’s got all the features I consider when deciding on art shows to enter. The Connecticut region of SAQA has an exhibit which has been traveling for more than a year, in which I’ve got two pieces. “Rhythm #1- Dancing” and “Piecing Beauty”.  This traveling exhibit was opened at the Slater Museum last month as can be seen in the sign above. I missed the opening reception. So recently, I took the hour-long trip to Slater Museum to see the exhibit. The exhibit includes works of artists from the Connecticut, Northern CA and Nevada regions.

I walked into the Slater Museum with my camera bag over my shoulder (kinda reminded me of my dad.  He always had a camera bag around his body). No wonder I ended up loving cameras and taking photos.

Here’s the impressive entry way to the joint regional exhibition at Slater Museum. I usually don’t go through these doors but I’m glad I did this time.  Because the view is worth it.

The smaller pieces you see on the walls are “trunk show” pieces which traveled with the main exhibit.

 

 

My Artwork on Display

Here’s my piece “Rhythm #1- Dancing”. I love this piece.  It’s made up of several pieces of fabric fused together and then stitched.  The stitching added so much texture to this piece. It was a great study on using value to create the illusion of depth and movement. I love working like this where  I experiment with the elements and principles of design to create an interesting composition.

Over in the corner is my other piece in the show titled “Piecing Beauty”.  This is the last piece in a 3-part series I created a while back.

Promotional Materials for the Exhibition

There was a lot of promotional material created for this exhibition. This is one of the things you should look for when deciding on art shows to enter. A color program was created for this show as shown above.  

Also, the curators of the exhibition created a full-color catalog for the exhibition.

Each artist has a page or two in the catalog. Each page gives an in-depth look at the artists’ artwork and the statement which goes with them.
