Last fall, the editor of the well recognized publication – Quilting Arts Magazine – contacted me to let me know that they were planning to do an artist feature on me. As you can imagine, I was ecstatic about the prospect of being featured in such a great magazine. My work has previously been published in the magazine as part of other stories but nothing like a feature exclusively on my work.

Working on the Project

Over several months we worked through interviews and materials submission. Vivika Hansen DeNegre, the editor of Quilting Arts magazine is a wonderful person to work with. I so enjoyed our interaction during this project. I’m grateful for the final article she wrote and the imagery she chose to use. She put my work at the front and center of this feature and I couldn’t be happier. Works from my Gem Series are featured in this article.

Waiting to see the final Results

When it was all done, I can’t tell you how hard it was to wait for it to be published. Then, I couldn’t wait for my copy to arrive in the mail. So, I went searching for a copy in the various book stores in my area. I even posted a hilarious video of me hunting down a copy of the latest Quilting Arts magazine on Instagram. Finally, I found a copy and it was all worth my while to hold it in my hands.

The feeling of being published never wears old. As much as I love technology and the digital world, there’s something special about the sense of touch. Holding a copy of the Quilting Arts Magazine in my hand made it feel real. Although, I’d already seen the digital version of it, I needed to touch the paper.
