I’m happy to share with you my latest piece of work, titled “Exuberance.” It’s part of my ongoing series of works called “The Joy of Living.” This artwork is a celebration of youthfulness—a visual expression of that magical season in life where everything seems possible, and the world is filled with boundless energy and potential.

The Inspiration:
‘Exuberance’ is inspired by my daughter and her friends and the carefree spirit of youth. It’s a reflection of those moments when joy, curiosity, and a sense of limitless possibilities intertwine.
The Colors:
To capture the essence of youthfulness, I chose a palette bursting with lively and energetic colors. Vibrant shades of blues, greens, and yellows are evident in the work symbolizing the exuberant energy that defines this season of life. I also included Adinkra symbols which are present in all the pieces of work in the series.

The Composition:
The composition of the artwork is designed to evoke a sense of freedom, movement and spontaneity. The fluid movement of the figure’s body and skirt and the clapping of hands all capture this sense of freedom. The joy in the work invites viewers to interpret their own stories of youthful exuberance.

Reflecting on Youth:
As I created ‘Exuberance,’ I couldn’t help but reflect on the beauty of youth. That period when dreams are big, challenges are met with enthusiasm, and every experience is an opportunity for growth. It’s a celebration of embracing life with an open heart and a fearless spirit.
In Your Own Words:
I encourage you to spend some time with ‘Exuberance’ and let its vibrant energy resonate with your own experiences of youthfulness. What memories or feelings does it evoke? I would love to hear your reflections and thoughts.

Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey. ‘Exuberance’ is more than just a piece of art; it’s my gift to girls yet unborn. When I think of this work, the words of writer Ntozake Shange comes to mind and with this work I say,
“I created this work for young girls of color, for girls who don’t even exist yet, so that there is something here for them when they arrive.”

I’ll like for this piece to inspire you to embrace the exuberance within yourself and cherish the limitless possibilities that life has to offer.
Warmly,
