Clara Nartey
Recently, I seem to have a lot of good news. For the past few months, I’ve been talking with my mailing list subscribers about my upcoming solo show. I know if you’re not on my mailing list, you haven’t heard the news.  So today I want to share with you all, the good news about my upcoming solo show. It will be at Atticus Bookstore and Cafe in New Haven, CT. Upcoming solo show at atticus bookstore showing textile art I’m very honored to be invited to show my work in this space.  It is a very well located bookstore/cafe.  There are so many reasons why I’m so excited about the show. One of them is location, location, location. The store is on a street which has a lot of foot traffic, in downtown New Haven. New Haven is a college town, with Yale University being the largest institution, employer and influencer in town. In addition, Atticus Bookstore and Cafe is also nestled in an artsy neighborhood.  Yale University Art Gallery is right across from the book store and Shubert Theatre is not far away. Needless to say, I feel very good about the location. atticus bookstore and cafe

Community Arts Program at Atticus Bookstore and Cafe

Furthermore, Atticus Bookstore and Cafe has a wonderful arts program where they showcase the work of local artists. One of the people on my mailing list recommended me to their arts program manager. I’m very honored that after meeting with her, she invited me to show my work in their space.  However, I’m the first textile artist to show in their store.  Although initially, the manager was a little concerned about showing textile art, I convinced her it will be just fine. For the past several months, I’ve been working tirelessly to get ready for the exhibition at Atticus Bookstore and Cafe. I must say, it’s been a lot of work, much more work than I thought it’ll be.  Mind you, I thought it will be a lot of work to start with.  As my friend Jan, who put up a photography show last weekend, told me how much work went into pulling off her show, I could so relate. atticus bookstore and cafe

Solo Show Theme

In my upcoming show, I’ll be presenting my stitched drawings from Stitch the Sketch Series. I chose to work on the theme “Reflections”. The basis for this theme is simply this: “Reflections demand we take a closer look at what is”. The show “Reflections – Stitched Drawings” demand you take a closer look at free hand machine stitching as a form of artistic expression. The way the theme works is this: for each piece in the show, I’ll have a corresponding piece that I’ve created in its reflection. For each pair of pieces, one will be on a black background. Then it will be reflected on a white background. In the weeks to come, I’ll show you behind the scenes preparation for the show. I need a little time to write it all up. But be assured, I’ll let you in on all that went into putting the show together.

Books, Food & Art

So, I’ll like to I invite you to come see the show at Atticus Bookstore and Cafe in New Haven. I believe it will be a great reflection of  the high caliber of work textile artists can and do create.  You really don’t want to miss this show. They have wonderful salads, soups and sandwiches in their cafe. You should read the great reviews and see their menu. Come buy a book and try their food while you enjoy a visual feast of my artwork. The exhibit will be on view from September 12, 2016 to October 23, 2016. Venue: Atticus Bookstore and Cafe 1082 Chapel Street New Haven, CT 06510 While I’ll not be having an opening reception, I’ll be in the store on 2 occasions.
