An Event In Celebration of Dr. King’s Legacy at Heather Gaudio Fine Art
This year, S.T.A.R. (Stand Together Against Racism) partnered with Heather Gaudio Fine Art to host a special fundraiser in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The STAR Fundraiser took place amidst the group exhibition The Space We Exist In, curated by the acclaimed Larry Ossei-Mensah. The combination of art and advocacy made for a truly inspiring evening.

The exhibition explores themes like identity, belonging, and resilience—perfectly aligning with S.T.A.R.’s mission to fight racism and create lasting social change. During the STAR fundraiser, Larry Ossei-Mensah spoke to the audience about the show’s themes, adding depth and insight to the artwork on display. Besides, Larry has this masterful way of adding context to an artist’s vision that I so much appreciate. You have to hear him speak to appreciate his skill.

Later, I also had the opportunity to speak about my work and the inspiration behind it. Sharing my process and ideas with the audience felt incredibly rewarding. I’m realizing just how much I enjoy giving artist talks—it’s a chance to connect with people on a deeper level. As a matter of fact, the audience was warm and engaged, which made the experience even more meaningful.

Art and Activism
The fundraiser focused on supporting college students in underserved communities. Many students face barriers to success, and S.T.A.R. is committed to providing the resources they need to thrive. The event raised funds and awareness for this vital cause.

Besides, the evening was full of connections and conversations. Guests moved through the gallery, taking in the art and discussing the themes it explored. Meanwhile, I met so many thoughtful, passionate people, and I left feeling energized and inspired by their support.

Dr. King once said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” Undoubtedly, this STAR Fundraiser was a powerful example of that idea in action. It showed how art and activism can come together to make a difference.
As we celebrate Dr. King’s legacy, let’s continue to use creativity and compassion to create a more just and equitable world.
That’s it for now.
Warmly,
